Meditation and Weight
Loss
The daily strife of life can sometimes leave the body
stressed and when the body is stressed the essential
hormone Cortisol gets released which can cause negative
side effects to the body such an increased appetite,
higher blood pressure and suppresses the thyroid gland
which helps to regulate the metabolism.
Although cortisol is an essential hormone inside the
body and has many functions some of which include blood
pressure regulation, strengthening the immune system
function and much more dieters must make sure that
cortisol works for them and not against
them.
It is normally presently higher in the morning and
lower at night and can also be secreted whenever the body
is under stress or when the body is subjected to fight or
flight and in small doses cortisol can be beneficial to
the body because it increases the immunity, gives a
higher pain threshold and improves the memory but if the
body is not relaxed after the body has been subjected to
stress the body can fight back in other ways causing
chronic stress which can lead to abdominal weight gain
though a imbalance in the blood sugar levels and can
increase the bad LDL cholesterol in the body which can
cause heart attacks and stroke.
There are ways to beat stress and one of them is
through calming the body with meditation. There are so
many techniques out there but it may be better to
purchase a CD to listen to which guides the listener into
a deep state of relaxation.
Meditation works. It is fast, simple and greatly
helps to reduce the stress levels in the body. After a
few months of doing daily meditation stress may seem a
thing of the past. Think of those times when any little
thing could have got you stressed and how long does it
take to calm the body down?
A long time which can lead to additional frustration.
Meditation will help you control your mind and when your
mind is controlled through your thoughts who can stress
you out except yourself? You need only meditation for
around 10 minutes per day. Lie down or meditation in the
lotus position.
Whichever position you wish to place yourself in when
performing meditation as long as it's comfy and nothing
is distracting it's all good. Meditation is basically
clearing the mind of all thoughts and it can be a
wonderful feeling for those who have never tried it. When
we think about how many thoughts we have per day, around
40,000 and the mind has been constantly thinking about
this or that, it can be good to clear the
mind.
Obviously some people get more stressed than others
and when cortisol is released in a person who gets
stressed out all the time they may find that they turn to
food even though they may not feel hungry it is the
stress hormone cortisol that has caused the out of
control blood glucose levels.
It is those people who should undertake some form of
relaxation such as meditation which will help them stay
calm and relaxed under pressure and help with their
weight loss.
