Junk Food and Weight Loss
Eating a lot of junk food can lead to weight gain
because they contain a lot of saturated fat. Fries,
burgers and doughnuts contain large amounts of saturated
fat but eaten as part of a healthy diet of 80/20% those
looking to lose weight can still enjoy their favourite
item of junk food whatever that may be.
If you love chocolate instead of having a whole bar
maybe just eat half and have the other half the next day
or try chocolate with cocoa solids of at least 70% or
higher if you can find it. Or if you love crisps maybe
just have a handful instead of a full packet. There are
loads of ways to reduce your calorie count by halving
your junk food cravings.
Try to eat healthily about 6 out of 7 days and then
have a day when you indulge in your favourite foods.
Being strict with your diet 100% of the time may
ultimately lead to disaster and larger cravings of
naughty full fat foods.
Allowing yourself a 'cheat' day gives you something
to look forward to and makes the weight loss an important
factor that wouldn't have happened had you not been
strict on your diet 80% of the time.
Even though burgers contain large amounts of
saturated fat they still contain good amounts of protein
but the ones served in fast food restaurants are normally
not very filling.
You may find it better to make your own burgers which
can be done fairly easily with a little mince, flour, egg
and vegetables and you can even spices for an extra
oomph. One of the healthiest junk foods has to be fried
chicken.
Chicken contains great amounts of muscle building
protein and even though the skin if full of saturated fat
the fact there is chicken underneath which is very
filling may satisfy your body so that you eat a lot less.
Junk foods that are very unhealthy are doughnuts and you
should limit the amount of sugar eaten which doesn't help
to keep the blood sugar levels stable.
Doughnuts are pure sugar and they give the body an
energy boost then when the body has burnt the sugar off
the body starts to crave sugar again. It can be a vicious
circle and it can be easier to just steer clear of sweet
products.
Chocolate is a little healthier but the 70% cocoa
solids are the best versions which contain antioxidants
and because they are a lot sweeter than milk chocolate a
couple of pieces satisfies the sugar craving rather than
a full bar.
Limit your junk day to once a week. Try to have a
high protein product and steer clear of fries which are
pure fat, there are no vitamins and minerals contained in
them.
Fried chicken may be healthier than a fatty burger
because chicken is a good source of protein which fills
the body up and keeps it fuller for longer. Dark
chocolate is a healthier variety than milk
chocolate.
