Cooking for Weight Loss
Have you ever wondered why fruit and vegetables are
so heavy and convenience foods are so light? Convenience
foods are not nutritious. The heavier foods like natural
fruit and vegetables are mostly heavy because they
contain good amounts of water and if you've ever tried to
lift a 2 litre bottle of water they're
heavy.
When trying to lose weight it is easy when you're
following a calorie controlled diet to purchase foods
that have the exact amount of calories you need so you
know what your body is taking in but half of those foods
can contain a lot of sugar and not many
nutrients.
Why not try making the meal you buy from scratch? It
will probably cost you the same it would to buy and
because you know exactly what ingredients are going into
it you know there is no hydrogenated fats added or sat
and it probably contains a lot less calories
overall.
It is important to feed your body with nutrients when
trying to lose weight and your body will correspond by
dropping pounds. Eating healthy foods gives your body the
vitamins, minerals, fibre, carbohydrate and essential
proteins that your body needs for optimum health and it
is especially body to think about what you are feeding
your body when you are trying to lose weight because of
the deficit in daily calories.
With cooking you needn't add salt to a meal you can
add herbs and spices instead for flavour and some of the
smaller ingredients that go into meals can be so
important for health. Take for example garlic. Garlic
strengthens the immune system which helps the body fight
off colds and infections etc.
Chili is excellent because it actually causes the
body to go into thermogenesis mode which means that the
metabolism is already working to burn extra calories and
it can also sweat out a cold of flu. There are so many
ways to make food tasty.
Giving your body the right amount of nutrients when
you are calorie counting or dieting to lose weight is so
important for overall health. You will also find that
when a lot of vegetables are used in cooking that you may
feel fuller sooner.
That's because of the water bulk actually contained
in vegetables which makes us feel fuller. Did you know
that a carrot contains 70% water? If you've ever tried
juicing a carrot a lot of juice is squeezed out. Even a
banana contains 90% water even though they can't be
juiced.
That is why most fruit and veg can be heavy to carry
but they are also the most nutritious. There are loads of
delicious low fat recipes available which are ideal for
the person who is looking to lose weight and even
delicious desserts to make. Try soups, stews, casseroles
which contain good amounts of vegetables and they are
filling and fat free sponges as a treat once in a
while.
